For Chinese, today is a special day. It is so called Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (Aug. 15), which is usually mid or late September of the Solar calendar.
Why Aug. 15? Because the moon is the roundest on this night in a year. For farmers, it is time to celebrate the end of the summer harvest; for common Chinese people, it is time for families and friends to gather together (roundness). On Chinese calendar, Mid-Autumn Festival, like Spring Festival, is an important family reunion festival. People gather together to admire the bright full moon, eating moon cake, grapes and pomelo.
