The Chinese New Year is coming! This Thursday is going to be the 1st day of the year of Goat (羊). Here are some craft ideas for children to celebrate the arrival of the new year. Let’s first start with a fun poster of the personalities of “Goat People”: elegant, artistic,  tender, loving and so on…

2. Cotton ball Sheep from freekidscrafts.com

  • Newspaper
  • Tape
  • Straws
  • Some old cardboard or construction paper
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue

You don’t need much material to make this really nice craft. You will need

  • 2 paper plates
  • some black construction scrap paper
  • some scrap normal white paper (to make the eyes)

This little sheep card holder is really adorable. Would be a great craft idea for both parent and child.

5.  Red Envelope Goat Character by etspeaksfromhome.co.uk

Red envelopes are popular during Chinese New Year period. Normally adults give them to children red envelopes sealed with some lucky money. Since 羊 is quite simple, this project is a nice combination of the introduction to Chinese tradition (red envelopes) and a little practice on one Chinese character.

You need the following materials

  • 11 red envelopes (or red pieces of construction paper in the rectangular shape)
  • a stapler
  • glue (to glue the red envelopes onto a large piece of paper) or blue tack (to glue them onto the wall)
