3-Part Montessori Flashcards

Flash cards by definition are to be used to show one card to the kids quickly and move on to the next one. The Montessori way is beyond the traditional way. They are used in multiple ways. For example, they can be used as an assistance tool for reading a book of relevant topic. They can be used as a cue for further discussion or learning. They can be used for sorting and matching with real objects. … The ideas go on and on. 

For Chinese vocabulary learning, the best approach is to study and assess. 3-part flashcards are perfect. the 3 types of flashcards: 1. Control card (with image, Chinese words and pinyin); 2. Image card; 3. Chinese word card, give a Chinese learner several ways of learning the Chinese words. 

Kids can use the control cards to learn the objects and Chinese words respectively by studying both images and Chinese words together with pinyin. Pinyin ensures that the child learns about  the  correct pronunciation of the Chinese words.

Image and Chinese word cards can then be used for assessing the learning: can the student make the connection between the image and its Chinese word? You can use them during a focused lesson time. You can even use them on the go: if you go to the beach, learn the words on the beach. Find the things listed in the images and make connections to the real objects. You can even ask your child to draw or take pictures of the things they see and find the corresponding Chinese words on the flashcards. By doing this, your child will for sure remember the Chinese words well.
